The Cadence Wristrate Watch from NK is the latest in stroke rate and performance monitors. A full-featured digital sports watch, it can also be quickly and easily strapped onto a sculling or sweep oar for wireless stroke rate measurement. The patented tilt-switch technology calculates stroke rate based on the feathering interval. There are no wires to install, making the Cadence an especially great tool for rowers who use different boats. For the coach or spectator, the Cadence offers a large, dedicated rate button right on the face, allowing easy rate measurement at any time. It's even possible to take rates with one hand by simulating the feathering motion with the watch hand - great when driving a launch. Add-in a 100-hour, 99-split chronograph, alarm, and smart auto-adjusting day/date calendar, and you have the complete rower's timepiece.

Nielsen-Kellerman Announces Partnership with Cadence Rowing Systems

BOOTHWYN, PA, September 13, 2004… Nielsen-Kellerman announced today the partnership with Cadence Rowing Systems. The two companies will work in conjunction developing innovative products for the sport of rowing.

For over twenty-five years, Nielsen-Kellerman has been known worldwide for its waterproof speed measurement, timing and audio systems for competitive rowers. Virtually every shell at the 2004 Athens Olympic games carried NK equipment. Founded in 1978 by engineers Paul Nielsen and Richard Kellerman, NK has held a strong position in the worldwide rowing market since its inception, and continues to be the industry leader.

Cadence Rowing Systems has recently emerged in the rowing market when veteran rower and owner Vanja Buvac began developing products for the rowing community while working on his doctorate in human-computer interaction at Harvard’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Cadence Rowing Systems provides patented electronic, computer and software systems that help rowers train more effectively.

Cadence brings innovation in the form of a tilt-switch patent, and NK brings 27 years of experience in developing and manufacturing electronics specifically catering to the rowing market. The new team boasts over 80 years of experience in the sport of rowing, much of it on the elite and international level. The majority of the product development team still actively participates in the sport as either athletes or coaches. The two companies are currently in development of a new product line that is anticipated to hit the market in late 2005.

The partnership was forged with the assistance of the Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Pennsylvania. Ben Franklin Technology Partners is a statewide network that fosters innovation to stimulate Pennsylvania's economic growth and prosperity. Operating regionally with four centers strategically located throughout the commonwealth, Ben Franklin Technology Partners brings together the best of Pennsylvania's people, ideas, and technology to serve as a catalyst for advancing the state's knowledge-based economy.
